Recently, BPB responded to a call to the community to help a gentleman whose sole mode of transportation was a dilapidated bicycle.

Subject: Looking for a bike to donate - single speed upright baskets etc.

There is an older gentlemen (in Waldorf, MD) that rides a bike as his only form of transportation.  I have bought and given him tires and tubes, but the bike itself is a beach cruiser style (at least 20 years old) with metal baskets on the back (for groceries etc) and is falling apart.  He clearly has very little money and I thought I would see if anyone out there had something they were willing to give him.  I can pick it up and transport it down there to him.  I'm not looking to make this a big deal, just something nice to do for someone else.  He was on the side of the road yesterday unscrewing the bolt that holds on the rear wheel to change yet another flat.  It might be nice to get him something with quick release wheels.  Thanks for considering this.

MABRA,
First of all let me say thanks to those that offered to help. It's nice to know our community is so willing to get involved.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ben from Ben's Performance Bikes (BPB) in Howard County for the donation of a brand new Jamis Citizen bicycle. Ben really went all out and set the bike up perfectly. The gentlemen who needed this bike is thankful beyond belief.

I had the pleasure of visiting Ben's shop when I picked up the bicycle and was very impressed with the selection of top notch racing bikes.  It's not often that I walk in a bike shop and see not just one cyclocross bike, but more than a few outfitted with Easton deep dish tubular wheels and color matched carbon accessories (too bad it will end up getting dirty). Turn the corner and see top of the line Jamis carbon fiber bikes, BMC and Time, I thought I was in a pro-tour mechanics garage. Oh yea, he carries the full line of bicycles for babies on up to the most picky of MABRA racers. Ben has a history
with car and motorcycle racing. He brings this excitement for racing sports to his bicycle shop. Please visit his website and shop when you get a chance and see what he has to offer.

Ben,
Here are a few pictures I took of Larry with the bike. He was ecstatic and elated. It fits him well and he is set for years. Thanks again for your generosity! Bill
